The moult to 2nd-winter is almost complete here and the eventual grey adult colouration can be seen on the birds back ( known as the mantle ). Some 2nd-winter birds are more advanced at this moult stage. This could be attributed to the birds previous trauma and disabilities, both of which can hinder the moult.
